Blog # 11

When reading the chapter the part that stuck out to me the most was on p. 349 where they discussed teachers talking about emotional competence. This has made me think about how important being an educator is. Being an educator is not only about teaching students the necessary academic skills needed it involves more than that. Even though there are only academic standards I feel that there are unwritten standards such as emotional competence. I liked how on this page they gave some key things that teachers can do to promote emotional competence. I took many helpful tools that I will do my best to implement in my classroom. Such as, creating an environment that is comfortable for my students, being the role model in my classroom and show how you should handle your emotions. This is very important because students will be able to personally see what they should be doing to handle their emotions. Another beneficial thing that teachers need to is show students positive way to handle their emotions. We need to show them strategies that will help them be successful.

  1. I do agree with you Sandra that it is important to create a comfortable environment for the students, being a role model, handling emotions. They are all very important things you have to remember. I think it is important to keep a close relationship with your students but also remember that you are a teacher. I believe you would be more successful as a teacher if you play both roles seperately; your personal and professional. Before you come to school in the morning it isimportant that you leave everything in your car then enter the school and when you leave school you leave your work in school. Others may think differently but in most cases it is important to keep them seperate.
