Blog 11
It was interesting to learn that so many things in your childhood stick with you for the rest of your life. Although interesting, its not so much really surprising. In the lecture it was stated that things like attachment, temperament, and self control affect how you behave through the rest of your life. As far as attachment goes, it was said that those who had a network of people to attach to and not just one central person were a lot better off and more social. It also said with the example of the abusing husband that depending on the attachment you have to different people you may behave differently and depending on how you feel about those attachments determines how you act on your feeling. Your temperament could also affect the way you live all your life because it basically determines the way you handle different situations and emotions. Obviously something like this would effect you for the rest of your life. And last but not least, the topic of self control in children was very interesting. The video about the marshmallow test was particularly interesting. I thought it was strange that they could predict the behavior of these kids later in life based on if they ate the marshmallow or not. Very interesting. Nothing i would have ever thought of, but it makes sense. Self control is a very important thing in life. It can definitely lead to success. Even the marshmallow experiment itself shows success or not. The experiment itself is just a model of an actual pay-off type situation in the real world. Sometimes, if you wait and have patience, it will pay off with a bigger reward in the end, which could definitely lead to a more successful life.
