In response to Sandra, I also agree on the importance of self regulation. As a preschool teacher I understand and see how children grow and learn to control their self regulation abilities. I had one child in my classroom who struggled with self regulation. The child was 3 years old at the time and needed to acquire some mastery skills. The child would often become frustrated if they could not finish a simple task and would immediately ask a teacher for help while jumping up and down. The child had little patience and one of their goals while in the classroom was to learn to gain more self regulation. After working with the child for a few months I was able to see a lot of growth in the child and they benefited from encouragement from teachers and peers. I think that it is important for early education teachers to lay the foundation for self regulation and as elementary teachers we can continue to build on the students skills.
