Blog 14, Week 4
Sandra you brought up a good point about whether we are teaching students to be self-regulated learners or not. My answer to you is, the American educational system is designed to teach students to jump through hoops an not to think for themselves. The extensive use of high stakes testing supports my claim. The higher ups in education expect to see tangible results from students at specific times. Although this is understandable, it is not realistic. In our present educational system children and adolescence are not students they are statistics. Every student is expected to perform in the same manner at the same time, which as we learned, is not the case. Every student learns different which has been know, however, the dinosaur system refuses to actually acknowledge this. Until students are no longer taught to jump through hoops, they will not possess the skills to be a life-long learner.
