Emotion

The lecture was interesting and the thing that stuck out to me the most was the attachment theories. The one I aim to have with my children, and I'm sure everyone else does too, is the securely attached child. In this category the child used the parent as a secure base and feels comfortable enough to explore and play. I see this happening when a child plays on the floor with some toys and crawls around to a new object, they will turn back around and look at their mom (or caregiver) and check to see if they are watching them and may even chatter at them. Then the baby is comfortable to continue playing and occasionally turn back to check on mom, basically using her as a secure base to play around.
Also it was fascinating to learn that attachment styles guide a persons behavior through out their life. So looking on the bright side if a caregiver is responsive to their child in their needs for protection and also allows exploration, then child develops a model of self as lovable and self reliant, and sees others as loving and dependable. This is my goal for my future children and I'm grateful I learned about it.
