Tracara's quip about there needs to be more research concerning minority intelligence is correct. IQ test are supposed "to predict everything from mental health to job performance" (p. 213). However, researchers are realizing that IQ test do not predict much more than a student's possible success in school (p.213). The main reason the unintelligent stigma is attached to minority students is because they are "white" unintelligent (p.213). What this means is, each culture has its own attributes and norms, as such, different areas are highlighted as important to learn. If the family of a student from minority decent works at menial or labor intensive jobs, the focus of this students learning is going to concern working hard and helping out the family financially as soon as possible. Knowing how to find a pattern or how to solve a quotient is not going to matter much to someone that cleans for a living. It is not to say that this student cannot learn this material; however, public education needs to make up for the absent information. IQ tests need to be culturally specific, or more correctly, culturally unbiased. It is not an easy task to devise such a test, however, looking at educations long history, there is time to change.
